Día Festival

The festival I attended this year was very different from the one I (almost) attended last year.

The first difference is that I knew to expect this one. While I arrived later than intended, I scheduled my day appropriately.

I saw the MEAD Machine in the wild, and was surprised to see few food vendors

There were so many bright, colorful, fun, and tempting items for sale

I like this representation of La Calavera Catrina/ Garbancera (I found a thoughtful article about her)

While I only spent an hour here, I clearly enjoyed it.

One Dance (2025.10.25)

At the festival, I watched one dance and took many photos, Here are a few of my favorites.

S’edav Va’aki Museum (2025.10.18)

S’edav Va’aki (Central Ceremonial House) is one of only two remaining platform mound sites built by the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People.

Classic Period: 1150-1450

These photos show the ancient walls at the top of the platform mound with high-rise buildings and transportation systems in the background.

The Anthropology of Archaeology

Just on the other side of the fence, proof of life

Speaking of fences:

The access to the water is blocked and locked

The sign indicates that the decorative (yet functional) fence represents the two major rivers (Salt and Gila) that come together in the gate to form one head.
